UW Medicines Information Technology Services (ITS) department is a shared services organization, which supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, UW School of Medicine, and UW Physicians Network. The IT Services organization is responsible for ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the mission of patient care, research and teaching.
UW Medicine IT Services is looking for an outstanding Systems Administrator to join the team!
Provide systems administration support for the Caradigm Intelligence Platform (CIP 3.x) product, formally known as Microsoft Amalga/Azyxxi, its operational environment and technical systems. This position will be responsible for Microsoft Windows server administration for Caradigm's Infrastructure which includes but not limited to CIP Applications, SharePoint, SQL Server, SSRS, Hyper-V and other support servers. The position will entail creation and support of physical and virtualized server environments, in conjunction with SAN storage (IBM), systems monitoring (SCOM/BMC), Citrix, web services and other required tools, to ensure the functionality and reliability of all Caradigm production, test, training and development environments.
This position will report to the IT Manager for the TSO-Amalga Tech Team. The occupant will need to develop and maintain working relationships within this team; work closely with members of the Amalga Application Team, which includes ITS interface developers, report developers and analysts, Microsoft technical advisors, and the management team; and also develop and maintain strong working relationships with members of other TSO (Technical Services and Operations) teams, while becoming familiar with TSO operational standards and best practices. The position will also routinely work with members of other operational ITS teams, including DCOM (data center operations) and Network Operations, in order to be able to successfully provide system administration support for Amalga within the larger, highly complex technical environment of our data centers and networks.
The Systems Administrator (SA) will participate as a member of the TSO-Amalga Tech Team to ensure the viability of the system and to maintain infrastructural integrity of the Caradigm Intelligence Platform. This Amalga clinical data repository is maintained 24x7 and used to generate clinical, QA/QI, financial, operational and administrative analytical reports for UW Medicine. This will mean that the SA will be required to do on-call rotations. We are looking for a mid-level SA who has the ability to learn new systems/applications and to work integrally with others within the Amalga network of customers.
10% Operating System, Utilities, Database Software and Programming Tools
Develop automated and scalable system management applications to effectively manage UW Medicine IT infrastructure using tools such as C#, ASP.NET, SQL, PowerShell and HTML.
Design, specify, install, configure and support Windows servers, SharePoint web servers, Microsoft Clustering Services, SQL Clusters, ADFS, Hyper-V, SSRS Installation/Configuration/Support, Citrix terminal servers and application servers in a complex healthcare information systems environment as needed for Amalga deployments.
Design and deploy security measures that are compliant with UW Medicine security policies and procedures such as HIPAA.
Install, configure and maintain Amalga Servers; completing necessary documentation and backups.
Design and develop middle tier business logic and front-end user interfaces such as IIS Web Portal, SharePoint, and Citrix Presentation Manager, as needed for Amalga deployments.
Facilitate the planning of system and feature upgrades, including anticipating in off-hours service outage upgrades.
Analyze, test, monitor and optimize system performance; identifying and resolving issues.
Develop and maintain processes and technical documentation such as backup, system recovery, etc.
10% Project Management
Identify technical requirements, develop functional specifications, drive implementation and deliver successful project go-live. Serve as primary liaison between project stakeholders and the IT Services support teams.
Develop and communicate timeline and deliverables of project milestones.
Apply system analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users to determine server hardware, system functional specifications and problem determination and troubleshooting.
Facilitate and implement change control standard throughout the project life cycle, and implement required steps in preparing for production readiness review prior to project go-live.
10% Support, Training, Policies & Procedures
Offer training and support to end-users of deployed systems and applications.
Create and maintain customer request tracking system and plan for timely response to call requests.
Manage work queues.
Establish standard policies and procedures and ensure that they are followed by end-users.
10% Work with selected software and hardware vendors to provide system functionality in a manner consistent with UW Medicine's systems standards, policies and practices.
10% Interaction with the rest of the Amalga Clinical Data Report Team (DBAs, SAs, Interface Developers, Application Report Developers, and Departmental Report Developers).
10% Interaction with other IT Services Staff (i.e. Network, DCOM, TSO-Windows, TSO-Unix, TSO-DBA, EPIC, CERNER, etc.)
10% Performance Tuning (SCOM reporting), Benchmarks, System Administration Scripting, IBM TPC (SAN).
5% Hardware - Server
Review initial hardware specification and assist with refining as needed.
Perform any required baseline testing on new or existing hardware to be used by Amalga.
Drive the configuration and installation of hardware.
Help with establishing secure VPN connectivity between Microsoft and customer IT department. Conduct site survey to confirm location for hardware installation.
Participate in relevant architecture discussions during planning and configuration phases. Assist with system testing. Conduct planning, configuration and testing activities for additional hardware related to Amalga project such as printers, bar code scanners, biometric authentication devices, etc., depending on which of these devices are used in the environment.
Provide support for hardware infrastructure post go-live.
5% Hardware - SAN
Review initial hardware specification and assist with refining as needed.
Build, configure and maintain installation of SAN hardware. Currently we use IBM SVC and V7000 SANs but we may include NetApp and other SAN vendors in future support. Conduct site survey to confirm location for hardware installation.
Participate in relevant architecture discussions during planning and configuration phases.
Work with other teams to set up, networking, Fibre switch zoning (Brocade DCX) and monitoring. Assist with system testing.
Provide support for hardware infrastructure post go-live. Administer and configure SAN volumes and present to servers.
5% Network Planning and Implementation
Assist as needed in designing and implementing network configuration specifications for Amalga.
Perform any required network testing on new or existing hardware to be used by Amalga.
Assist with the configuration and installation of hardware in the customer environment.
Help with establishing secure VPN connectivity between Microsoft and customer's IT environment. In conjunction with Security IT Team and UW Tech, perform network analysis and configuration with Microsoft project team guidance. • Participate in relevant architecture discussions during planning and configuration phases.
Assist with system testing.
5% Create and maintain disaster recovery plan(s) of existing systems.
5% Plan and conduct enterprise application deployment and upgrade, modify set-up sequences and/or debugging code, identify and resolve issues.
5% Evaluate market trends and industry for new technologies.

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Two to seven years' experience in progressively more complex and responsible experience in Microsoft Windows Server technology and systems administration, including experience with common software tools, major hardware platforms and IT industry best practices.
Two to seven years' experience and detailed knowledge of server virtualization technology, using a major industry hypervisor (Hyper-V strongly preferred).
Two to seven years' experience with SharePoint that should also include in-depth knowledge of SharePoint 2013. Should be adept at installation, administration and use of integrated tools.
DESIRED:
Two or more years progressively responsible experience performing Windows Systems administration duties in support of the Caradigm Intelligence Platform/Microsoft Amalga product and systems environment, in a major healthcare organization.
Two or more years progressively responsible experience working with, and detailed knowledge of recent SAN disk storage technology from a major hardware vendor (prefer IBM V7000 or SVC).
Two or more years progressively responsible experience working in a complex, multi-systems environment, with a demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams and projects, to accomplish challenging technical objectives under the pressure of deadlines.
Should have experience with SQL clustering, SQL Server 2012, and SCOM.
Condition of Employment:
Fast-paced professional office environment.
Normal working hours. May also work off-hours and weekends to support maintenance as required.
On-Call coverage (7x24), as assigned.
Local travel among other UW Medicine data centers is required.
